John Purshouse & John Doble joining forces for the 2012 Australasian Safari
It’s that time of year again for the annual Australasian Safari – the Australian version of the Dakar event and the toughest off road challenge in Australasia.
In the 2011 Safari John Purshouse, with his co-driver Dave McShane, defied unbelievable odds on their first attempt at the gruelling event by scoring 2nd outright and first diesel powered vehicle whilst driving a new untested Triton Ute.
This year John Purshouse has entered again and has invited the veteran navigator and past three time winner, John Doble to be his team mate.
Their Mitsubishi Triton, using an Xtreme Outback Clutch is ready to do battle against some of Australia’s top cross country motorsport competitors.
The Safari is an eight day endurance race that sees competitors travel predominantly on off-road tracks through the stunning and exciting outback of Western Australia. The event is known as one of the toughest and most challenging motorsport events in the world.
This year’s course will be approximately 3500km through the mid-west of Western Australia, with competitors taking off from Perth on Friday 21 September, travelling north to Geraldton, up the coast to tropical Carnarvon – and inland through the Gascoyne region, skirting around the Kennedy Ranges before heading south to finish in Geraldton on Saturday 29 September.
The Safari has a strong contingent of more than 100 competitors in the Auto, Moto and Quad sections, including international entries from Italy (three riders), Thailand (a four-car team), the UK, The Netherlands (five riders) and the US (two riders) with Californian off-road racing star Quinn Cody who will tackle his first Australasian Safari.
