Xtreme-Sponsored Harry Suzuki & Bruce Garland ready to tackle the Dakar Rally.
Xtreme-Sponsored Harry Suzuki & Bruce Garland are about to embark on their 3rd Dakar Rally as a team with the duo finishing off some training drills before setting off. Both Garland & Suzuki have been preparing for the World famous Rally with some testing in Newcastle earlier in the week. “After three previous runs at this event, we know what to expect in terms of heat and altitude, but you can never be too careful,” said Mr Garland.
“We have been specifically training for both, and we will do some more work when we get there. We’ve also ordered some oxygen bottles. Next year’s event takes us up to nearly 5000 meters, much higher than the previous races, and for a longer period of time. If you’re not properly prepared for those conditions , things can get pretty nasty, pretty quickly.”
With their best result an eleventh outright, and first Diesel Ute home back in 2009, the team are aiming for a top ten finish this time around.
“Dakar is the ultimate challenge for an off-road racer. It’s like Everest for a mountain climber. Everyone that lives, dies. But not everyone who dies has lived, and you haven’t felt the power of living until you have done the Dakar!” Mr Garland said.
The team has prepared the Isuzu with an Xtreme Outback Competition Clutch from their Xtreme Outback Range, “with the clutch Xtreme have supplied, we can showcase to the rest of the world just what an Australian company is capable of & why these are the toughest clutches in the world” said Mr Suzuki.
The Isuzu Motorsports team leaves Sydney for South America on December 27th to do their final preparations. A total of 459 vehicles, comprising of bikes, quads, cars and trucks will represent 53 countries on the start line in Peru on January the 5th.
