The first of its type to be fitted to a VDJ, the self-adjusting pressure plate has an internal ratcheting mechanism that adjusts to compensate for friction disc wear. What does this all mean? Well essentially it means that this pressure plate will hold its torque capacity for the life of the clutch and only start to drop off right at the end. It also means you get a consistent pedal feel throughout the life of the clutch.
This is where the driveability aspect comes into play. Xtreme Outback offer two friction disc options for these kits including an organic upgrade for optimal driveability and a dual friction disc (Organic one side, ceramic the other) for even higher torque capacity.
Both disc options have a high torque sprung central hub for dampening.
The Xtreme Outback X-Series upgrades require a custom flywheel to fit this fancy new pressure plate design to your VDJ. The engineers at Xtreme Outback have developed a bespoke flywheel crafted from S45 Steel which has been carefully designed to keep the mass at optimal levels for harmonics and performance.
In order to keep the pedal effort and engagement point as close to factory as possible, Xtreme Outback have also custom engineered a slave cylinder to match these kits. This slave cylinder must be installed with the clutch and comes included with both versions of the kit.
The Xtreme Outback X-Series kits also included a braided clutch line. These lines include a metal braid covered with a protective outer sleeve which makes the line significantly stronger, less prone to cuts from foreign objects and they also have the added benefit of not expanding when using stronger pressure plates and delivering full travel of the
actuation mechanism.
Designed to be paired with the Xtreme Outback X-Series kits only, this high quality, hardened steel release bearing comes with both versions of the kit and includes a custom contact ring for optimal performance with the pressure plate diaphragm.
We understand the pain of trying to line up a clutch during installation. It takes time and it can also lead to damage of the friction disc if the transmission is accidentally hung on the friction disc during the installation process. To combat this, the Xtreme Outback X-Series kits comes with a beillet alignment tool which not only looks amazing, but gives the best tolerances for optimal alignment.
We have a PDF download that summarises all of the different upgrade options Xtreme Outback offers to suit the legendary 70 series LandCruiser. As one of the most popular vehicles for tuning, Xtreme Outback offer a range of different upgrades to suit all vehicle uses, performance goals and driveability requirements.
